Believe it or not, this burn is from the 1988 fires. I was surprised at just how obvious the fire was even 20 years later.
This area it appears wants to stay more like a meadow than return to a forest. In other areas affected by the 1988 fires there are trees between 4ft and 8ft tall. Lodgepole Pines grow around 6 inches to 12 inches per year in Yellowstone which accounts for why the trees are so short even after 20 years.
